1980’s Citadel Doctor Who U.N.I.T squad

 Next on the list is a mix of 80s Citadel/FASA  U.N.I.T Troops with a Land Rover from Twisted Pinnacle 3d. Some of the troops have had head tweaks & the U.N.I.T symbol on the Landy is drawn in AutoCAD & printed on paper.

Sci-Fi Base Run Through

 I thought I would do a quick run through of how I've being tackling the bases for the Doctor Who collection.

I use a mixture of Green stuff & Milliput, depending what I grab first, sometimes on its own or mixed.

I roll it out using a bit of copper pipe & some strips of plastic to get the height i want, then 2 thinner strips for the texture roller to try to keep the putty imprint level. I spray the putty with a mist of water to try to stop the rollers sticking. I had been using a thin silicone mat to roll everthing out on, but it was too thin & I got a lot of wonky bases so have stopped using it.

I Found a Copper Pipe Reducer that is the right diameter to fit inside the lipped bases & i use this to cut the discs out with.

I start painting them with a base of Vallejo Green Grey then Sponge Deck Tan on top & Follow this with a wash of Blue Grey that I've mixed up from Grey & Blue Inks,

The next process is a light sponging of Deck tan. I picked up a fantastic weathering sponge tool, from Notts Hobbies & just use some blister pack sponge for this. 

This is followed by some weathering by sponging on Black Brown & Dark Rust & finally just tidy up the base edges with black.

1980’s Citadel Miniatures Doctor Who, Painted Metal & Plastic Cybermen

 Well, after painting all the Doctors & Companions, I thought it was about time I got back to some bad guys. I had a few of The Cybermen cleaned up & undercoated so I got them painted.

Just a quick job of Basecoat Warpaints Gun metal, Vallejo Oily Steel dry brush highlight then another of Oily Steel/Miniature paints Silver mix followed by a wash of P3 Armour Wash then a final dry brush of Silver & some Red on the weapons.

 Well the final two companions are completed, so that's all of the Citadel Doctors & Companions finished & the set is complete.

I hope you've enjoyed seeing them progress as much as I have painting them.

I think it will be Cybermen & UNIT next. 

Wish I could find a Captain Yates for the UNIT squad, I've never seen one available anywhere!

 Well I’ve got the 80s Citadel 4th & 5th Doctor's finished, so that's all of them completed.

There's four of the companions to complete, then some UNIT troops for the good guys.

1980’s Citadel Miniatures Doctor Who - Painted Plastic Daleks

 Finally got round to painting some of the plastic Daleks that I'd managed to pick up way back in 2024 & had built! The Aircav Saga: Reinforcements Have Arrived

Just did a quick dark grey paint job on them & painted the bases more like the ones that I'm doing for the Doctors & Companions.

I also tweaked the bases of the existing Daleks to blend in better. I did notice that the plastic ones are a bit taller than the metal ones

1980’s Citadel Miniatures Doctor Who, Painted versions of The First & Second Doctors

 I thought that I would paint some more of the old Citadel Doctor Who line, as I was on a bit of a roll & the 1st & 2nd Doctors were already cleaned up & undercoated. 

I’ve actually tried to paint them in screen accurate colours, but it seems a little vague on the clothing colours, anywhere from yellow to grey for the trousers of the 1st Doctor, so I sort of went in between, still not sure if I should’ve painted the 2nd Doctors shirt pale blue! Anyway here’s the figures

1980’s Citadel Miniatures Doctor Who, painted companions Sarah Jane Smith & K9, plus a Harlequin/Black Tree 4th Doctor

 Finally got round to painting some old Citadel Miniatures Sarah Jane & K9 & a Black Tree/Harlequin 4th Doctor (even though I know I should be finishing the Pub!)

I haven’t painted this version of the 4th Doctor in any particular costume, I just went with something that feels right 😁

Sci-Fi Storage Tanks

 I’ve just made a couple of storage tanks for the desert board.

These have been cobbled together from various bits that we had lying around.

These black one's main body is from a Bullet Bill sweet container, 

with the holes filled in & various bits of Plasticard & plastic rod glued on

The other one is from a weird dome bit that I found, part of an old light fitting, with the usual bits of plastic rod etc stuck on

Desert terrain Sci-fi Gubbins

 Well I’ve been messing about making some Sci-fi looking bits (mostly from stuff I’ve found kicking about on site) to use my desert town terrain as a space port for Pulp Alley Doctor Who & Sci-Fi games, a bit more Star Wars than Doctor Who though 🤷‍♂️

I should also say that the idea was not to purchase anything for this project, 

everything had to be either what I already had or what I could scrounge & this goal was achieved.

No  cargo pods yet.

The whole board

The first thing I made was a large arched gateway for the space dock, 

using the same method I’ve previously posted about when I made the walls

The domes are made from half Christmas bauble glued onto a piece of plastic 

and covered in filler then sanded down.

All of the Comms Tower units for the tops of the buildings are made various electrical bits, 

old kit parts & plastic rod. 

The junk pile is various kit bits from the soars box. 

Engine & Vid screen 

The scratch built engine is cobbled together from an electrical connector & bits from the spares box. The leaking drums for the scrapyard are old 40k ones.

 The pillars, again electrical bits & spares from the bits box & the info screen for the Hab zone is created from some old kit bits on a Flintloque flat metal base, to give it a bit of weight.

I also made a weird thing that I’m not sure what it’s supposed to be (possibly a force field generator?) out of an electrical coupling, a pipe connector & a plastic mushroom, 

well it looks Sci-fi enough for me! 🤣

I later added some landing gear to the large saucer out of plastic tubing & some caps 

that are used on aircon units.

 I've also made a small saucer from some MDF discs & rings, a pipe collar & a different shaped plastic ‘mushroom’ used for capping steel rods & a few old 40k bits. 

There’s also a pile of luggage from 40k & 1/35 WW2 bits.

Finally some cargo pods out of plastic skirting corners, these are a bit wonky as the glue set a bit quicker than I expected.

Reinforcements Have Arrived

 Some Dalek reinforcements have arrived, along with some enemies 

Just need a cyber leader now 😁
