Bandits & Villagers for Pulp Alley's 'The Bounty Scenario'

I'm taking two tables to the next Pulp Alley UK Games Day, as well as the re-skinned the Hollow, the other is The Bounty, where the Leagues are searching for a group of bandits (Which are the Major Plot Point)

I've just used whatever desert terrain I have, to represent what I think that an Old West  Mexican village would look like.

For the Bandits I Got Some Figures from the Gringo 40's Mexican Revolution range. These are nice miniatures but some of the rifles look a bit small on some of the figures, so I swapped them for other guns or a rope.

For the four minor plot points I've used some 1st Corps Miniatures Villager Figures, these are The Woman, The Beggar & The Kid.
For The Stranger Plot point I decided it would be good to paint & use the Wargames Illustrated Giants in Miniature figure of  Alan Quatermain, as he looked suitably Western to me & he really needed painting.

The Hollow - Old West Re-skin

Instead of the Old woman for The Hollow scenario, that I will be taking to the Old West Pulp Alley Games day, I've decided to use a Native American From The Silver Bayonet Range.
He is from the Trading Company Unit in the Canada Supplement.

Also He needed a Tepee to Live in & as I didn't have one anymore I had to make one!
For this I used some bots of wire & another clean washed baby wipe.
I first made a pattern & cut out the baby wipe Glued the wire together & stuck on the outer layer.

I didn't do a very good job of getting it central though! It was then covered in a few layers of PVA glue to harden the exterior.
I’ve painted it in various shades of beige & off white & the poles in Foundry Spearshaft triad.
If I get chance or the inclination, I might put some patterns on it.

Next it is the Major plot point, rather than looking for a grave the players have to find the magic tools to stop a Wendigo

The Hollow Re-Skin - Burial Scaffold

I loosely based the Burial Scaffold on the image above for the Hollow Re-Skin For The Old West Pulp Alley Games Day.
For this, I just used some plastic rod that I had & broke it up into various lengths, this was then scored with a razor saw to get a wood effect & glued it all together.

I added some lengths of Cotton to look like it was lashed together & a skull & feathers to make to make them a bit more interesting.

They were painted with the usual old wood recipe that I used on the Ramshackle Church

Old West Gunfighter League Finished

Well I got the Old West League finished, ready for the next Pulp Alley UK Games Day

The bases are painted a sand colour, could maybe use some tufts, but I will have to see what I've got kicking about.

The Horses & Riders are magnatised, this will allow the horses to wander, as per the Pulp Alley Rules

Wild West Gunfighter 3

I've got the third & final member of my League Finished - 'Mad Dog' McFly

The Duster is painted with a Vallejo Khaki Grey basecoat & I added Tan Yellow to this for highlights

Wild West Gang Leader

The Leader for the Pulp Alley Western Gang is actually painted!

I kept the paint job pretty simple & I think they match well enough. Just need to name him

I've named him: Dutch Addams

The Mounted version has also been magnatised to allow the horse to roam when the character has dismounted. Now onto the 2 Sidekicks

Mounted Plastic Gunfighters Painted Horses

Well I managed to get the three horses for the mounted gunfighters painted.

All three are different versions of Dun, I think, any way I like how they’ve come out, whether they are correct or not. There was a bit of gap filling to do before the undercoat went on.

I will finish the bases at the same time as the foot figures

Foot & Mounted Gunfighters For Pulp Alley

The next Pulp alley games day will be a Wild West themed day in September & I sold off all my Western figures years ago, so I need to start from scratch.

I already have a figure running in a Top Hat coat with a bag (no idea where he came from) & I'd given him a large pistol, so I decided this would be the Leader for the League. I just needed to come up with a mounted version & some other members of the gang.

Great Escape Games have released some plastic Gunfighters both foot & mounted & I though that I would get a sprue of each to see if I could cobble something together.

There was a figure on the mounted sprue in a coat & a head wearing a Top hat, which was a good start.

I got the parts glued together to resemble the foot figure & made the coats storm flap & collar first, then added the mask & lengthened the jacket, finally I tackled the bag, which I did in quite a few stages & I think came out ok.

The finished foot & mounted version of the leader can be seen below & overall they match pretty well, I have changed the horse though.

Next I needed to make up two more members of the league. I happened to have two more of the foot bodies wearing the long coat, so I decided to see one would fit on a pair of mounted legs & on the horse, with a bit of manipulation it fitted ok, so this was one of the gang sorted.
For the next figure I just used the bodies in the Sack Coat & just built straight off the sprue.

Terrain for pulp vs Alley’s The Hollow Scenario - Part 3, The End

This is the Final part of  my wittering on about putting together a board for The Hollow Scenario.

The last three plot points were quite easy to sort out:

For Grandmother Brunt I’m using the Witch miniature from Gripping Beast, I've already got her painted, also there's a log Cabin that I've already painted up as her house.

Egon Van Ripper plot point will be a Silver Bayonet Canada Harvestman Agent (another previously painted miniature) from the official Northstar Miniatures range.

I really like this miniature & I’ve not had chance to use him in a game yet.

For the Gravestone, I used a Citadel one from the old Plastic Skeleton sprues & put some tufts around it, to make it resemble being hidden.

And of course, there’s the Big Bad, the Headless Horseman. I am going to use the converted Front Rank Archduke Charles figure that I converted for The Silver Bayonet scenario The Headless Rider.

I’m also using some other bits & pieces of scenery, some of it scratch built & some bought (even some Snapdragon stuff!!) such as rocks & a patch of rough ground.

Below is a couple of pictures of the finished board

Terrain for pulp Alley’s The Hollow Scenario - Part 2

On to Part 2 of the board for the Hollow:
I thought that some dead trees would be perfect to go on the board.
After looking into making some from scratch & realising that I would like at least 15 trees to be on the table, I soon discounted that idea !
Next I had a look at what was  commercially available & the ones that I thought were the best value were the Woodland Scenics tree armatures, the pack I found had around 25 trees in it for £21, so at about 84p each isn’t too shabby.

They are plastic with a wire armature inside & come flat, so that they can be bent into shape. There’s quite a lot of mold lines & casting points on them & they are a right pain to clean up, but when they are cleaned & twisted into shape they look pretty good. They were then glued to washers & sand added.

To paint the trees I sprayed them with Halfords Matt black primer & slapped some black Brown over the undercoat.

I added a touch of light green & field grey to the basecoat for the 1st highlight adding various light greys for successive highlights. I probably could have spent longer faffing about cleaning them up & filling gaps, but I really couldn't be bothered!

For the plot points in this scenario there’s a Rock with a name on it, a Tree with some initials on, a Random Bloke, a Granny & a Grave Stone.

To make the rock I used some blue foam & cut it to shape

I glued it to a washer added sand to the base, undercoated it & painted it in various shades of grey

I needed a tree next, but not one of the ones that I had used for the Dead Woods, this needed to be more imposing, so I decided to try to make one, I had done tree stumps before & used similar techniques.
For this I twisted some wire to make a basic tree shaped armature & the covered it with some superglue that had gone all thick & gloopy, that bulked out the armature & smoothed all the twists.
Next I covered it in a layer of Milliput to get the basic shape & finally covered it in brown stuff & scored on the bark design.

When I made the tree, I tried to make it look like it was alive.
The tree was painted in similar colours to the other trees. I decided to add a rat to the base of the tree as well.

That will do for this post, so I will finish this all off in the next post.
