Wooden Model fishing Boat kit

I picked up a model fishing boat kit from eBay, to use in Pulp & WW2 games. These had been recomended on the Pulp Alley players group!

These kits are supposed to be 1:50, but they aren’t! They are more like 1:76, below are the ‘instructions’.

Please be aware that if you are going to purchase one of these models, they are not for the faint hearted, they take some modeling skill.

It took me a while to build, as I was quickly got fed up with the dodgy instructions.
I had to decide what to do about the small cabin & decided to cut it down & build up the lower part to be able to place a figure inside the cabin. To hide the joins I Added vertical strips of card to look like wood planking. I also hadn’t built the full hull, leaving off the last bits of planking to form a flat base.

I also wasn't at all sure about how the rigging of the boat should look, so I searched about on the internet & found the picture below of a small fishing trawler & used this to rig the boat similarly.
Ive added bits of card & aluminium to the mast & rigging, I've also used some small brass 'hooks' to tie the ropes too, that are from model boat kits (I picked these up over 30yrs ago! So don't have a clue what they are from anymore)

Not being happy with the waterlining that I'd done, I decided to cut some more from the hull.

Of course I then wasn't happy & so added some an extra layer of balsa to raise the bow, finally i was happy 😃

Anyway, I eventually chucked some paint at it & the finished boat is below.

I still have to name her, I think I call her 'Nellie' after the boat in Conrads Heart of Darkness book.

Dave at Pulp Alley is also having fun building one of these & a Chinese boat as well over on his Youtube channel

1st Corps Mechanic

Finally found time to paint the Mechanic from 1st Corps that comes with the Fuel Pump set.

He’s a cracking little figure with plenty of Character.

I’ve based him on a metal base insert from Black Cat Miniatures on top of one of the newer lipped Warlord games plastic bases.

Fear of the Dark, scenario 2, scene 1 - The lonely road

Fear of the Dark scenario 2, scene 1 the lonely road.

Our Heroes are traveling to a near by town & come across a crashed vehicle, with three hoodlums accosting a young lady.

One one the kidnappers, brandishing a knife charges at Sister Ursula tripping just as she reaches the Crimson Nun

Father Rathbone rushes to her aid spotting a iron bar in the hedge & grabs it on the way past lunging at the attacker & missing her with his first wild swing. Quickly he recovers & knocks her unconscious with a single blow to the head. The two monks move cautiously round the rear of the car.

The two antagonists still standing are a lot more cautious than their unconscious friend.

As the Nun moves forward, picking up the fallen knife on the way, one of the Gangsters charges her & they both swing wildly, father Rathbone again rushes to her aid & swiftly dispatches him.

As is well known, criminals are a cowardly lot and the remaining man doesn’t disappoint & runs off, leaving our heroes to rescue the girl.

All in all another enjoyable little game. I'm rally liking painting all the figures that I've bought over the years for WWWII (why I have so many professor types though is anybodies guess!)

1stCorps Petrol Pumps

I ordered The 1stCorps Petrol Pumps & Attendant & have Painted up the the pumps &Motor oil cabinet

This is a fantastic little set which I will be using for Pulp & WW2 games.

I printed out some garage signs from the ‘tinterweb and painted the edges before glueing to to cabinet.

The base for the pumps is an oval of mdf with sand paper for the tarmac & cardboard for the kerb stones. I also cut off the ‘shell’ from the top of the squat electric (blue) pump & replaced it with a large round pin head to represent a glass globe.

I’ve photographed them with an mdf shed (can’t remember who makes it) & some oil drums that I picked up of eBay, I think 🤔

I don’t know what has happened with the last 2 posts getting swapped round 🥴

PULP INVESTIGATION TEAM FOR FEAR OF THE DARK

Well I seem to be neglecting my Blog recently, every time I’ve tried to post something it’s failed, so 🤞this gets out 😁

I’ve finally found a use for all the Pulp/Weird War miniatures that I’ve kept buying!

I saw the Fear of the Dark rules mentioned over on LAF, so followed the links to the creators blog https://fearofthedarkskirmishwargame.blogspot.com/ & liked the look of them & went over to Wargames Vault & bought them.

It’s a game with very few miniatures. You have a group of Investigators with 3 to 4 figures looking for clues, fighting Gangsters, thugs, Cultists & Monsters.

Anyway here’s my team: A priest from Artizan Miniatures, An armed Nun, that I think is a homage to The Crimson Nun (this is a fan made miniature from LAF) & 2 Jolly Monks from Wargames Foundry.

The pages of the book still need to be finished, but I will do this after they have some varnish on (it will be easier to remove a mistake)
